Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Monday 12th February, 2018 has arraigned one Adejare Sonde, a former banker before Justice A. A. Akinyemi of the State High Court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State on a twelve-count charge bordering on stealing, forgery and uttering.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, Cosmos Ugwu prayed the court for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in prison custody. However, counsel to the defendant, E. E. He thereafter prayed the court to allow the defendant remain in the EFCC's custody pending the hearing of the bail application.
Justice Akinyemi, while adjourning the case to Friday February 16, 2018 for trial and hearing of bail application, granted the defense prayer and ordered that the defendant be remanded in EFCC's custody pending hearing of bail application.
Adeyemi was arraigned following a petition from a Regional Compliance Head and Compliance Officer of one of the new generation banks (name withheld) alleging that the defendant, Sonde whilst still a staff of the bank and also an account office of a Microfinance bank (name withheld) suppressed and diverted the sum of 124,000,000.00. (One Hundred and Twenty Four Million Naira) property of the Microfinance bank.
The petitioner explained that Adejare, as account officer of the customer, allegedly collected cash from the Microfinance Bank on several occasions totaling N124Million which were not credited into the customer’s account.
Further investigations revealed that the defendant allegedly doctored emails which he sent to the microfinance bank as monthly statements of account without any remittance to the account.

Former President Barrack Obama has unveiled his official Presidential Portrait which was painted by a Nigerian- American artist Kehinde Wiley.

An official portrait of his wife Michelle Obama was also unveiled and the gallery and it was painted by Amy Sherald, a Baltimore-based.

Sharing the photos of his portrait, the 44th president of the United States wrote on Instagram: 'Today, @KehindeWiley and @ASherald became the first black artists to create official presidential portraits for the Smithsonian. To call this experience humbling would be an understatement.
The former President also thanked Kehinde who's born to a Yoruba father and an African -American mother.
'Thanks to Kehinde and Amy, generations of Americans — and young people from all around the world — will visit the National Portrait Gallery and see this country through a new lens. They’ll walk out of that museum with a better sense of the America we all love. Clear-eyed. Big-hearted. Inclusive and optimistic. And I hope they’ll walk out more empowered to go and change their worlds,' he added.
His wife, Michelle also shared her portrait which she described 'overwhelming.'
She wrote: 'As a young girl, even in my wildest dreams, I never could have imagined this moment. Nobody in my family has ever had a portrait - there are no portraits of the Robinsons or the Shields from the South Side of Chicago. This is all a little bit overwhelming, especially when I think about all of the young people who will visit the National Portrait Gallery and see this, including so many young girls and young girls of color who don’t often see their images displayed in beautiful and iconic ways. I am so proud to help make that kind of history. But the fact is that none of this would be possible without the extraordinary artist and woman behind this portrait, @asherald. Thank you, Amy – it was a joy to work with you and get to know you.'
Kehinde Wiley has previously painted music figures such as the Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Michael Jackson, and more

11-year-old girl gives birth to a baby fathered by her 14-year-old brother
An 11-year-old girl has given birth to a baby fathered by her 14-year-old brother in a hospital in Spain.
The new mum was impregnated by her brother when he was only 13. The girl, who is originally from Bolivia, had no idea she was pregnant and neither did her family. She was admitted to hospital with "stomach pains" but it turned out she was about to have her baby.
The 11-year-old girl gave birth at Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital in Murcia, south east Spain on Friday, February 2nd, 2018. Both mum and baby are said to be "doing well". Shortly after the birth hospital authorities alerted police and social services to investigate the circumstances of the pregnancy.
In 2013 Spain raised the age of consent from 13 to 16 but an exception is made if the sex is consensual when the boy is of similar age or stage of development and maturity. Because of the young age of the boy, charges are unlikely to be made unless the sex was non-consensual.
The Minister of Health of Murcia, Manuel Villegas, said the case was "exceptional". DNA tests will be carried out on the baby to verify who the father is.
