Tight security in Kaduna as court rules on El-Zakzaky’s bail application today

Security has been beefed up in Zaria, the Kaduna state capital, as the Kaduna State High Court will today Monday July 29th, rule on the bail application filed by the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) aka Shi'ites, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Justice Darius Khobo will rule on the application filed by the Shiites’ leader who is seeking permission to travel abroad for medical treatment. The bail hearing comes barely three days after a Federal High Court in Abuja granted the Federal Government the power to proscribe the group.

The Shi'ites members have over time demanded the release of their leader who has been in detention since December 2015, when some members of the group had a bloody clash with men of the Nigerian Amy in Zaria.

Recall that on Monday July 22nd, the protesting Shi'ite members clashed with men of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja. A crossfire ensued which led to the death of a Youth Corps member serving with Channels TV Abuja, Precious Owolabi, and a deputy police commissioner, Umar Belel.
